Duarte Enters into the “Adopt-a-Unit” Community Partnership Program with the National Guard’s HHT, 1-18 Cavalry out of Azusa


DUARTE, CA, October 14, 2014 – In the spirit of showing appreciation for the unwavering service provided by our local National Guard, the Duarte City Council has entered into a community partnership entitled the “Adopt-a-Unit program” with the California Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Troop (HHT), 1st Squadron, 18th Cavalry, located in Azusa. The City Council adopted a resolution memorializing the partnership at its September 23, 2014 Council meeting.


Duarte Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Nov. 25 to Honor Outstanding Community Volunteers and Kick off “Holiday of Promise” Project

DUARTE, CA, October 14, 2014 — Duarte will express its thanks to outstanding community volunteers and kick off the holiday season at the 29th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and 27th annual Duarte Chamber Community Service Recognition Awards. The event will be held Tuesday, November 25 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the City of Hope Cooper Auditorium, 1500 E. Duarte Rd. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance from the Duarte Chamber of Commerce, at Duarte City Hall, or online at A limited amount of tickets will be available at the door.


Victor Valenzuela Receives NAACP Civic Award


Duarte, CA, October 9, 2014 -Head Duarte Boxing’s Trainer, Victor Valenzuela was one of 15 community leaders presented with awards at the Pasadena Branch of the National Association of Colored People NAACP's 29th Annual Ruby McKnight Williams Awards Dinner, Oct. 2 at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel International Ballroom. Valenzuela received one of three Civic Awards handed out that evening.




DUARTE, CA, October 9, 2014 – As part of Duarte’s effort to be designated as a “Water Smart” City, on Saturday, November 1st high efficiency toilets (HETs) will be offered free to eligible residents who are customers of California American Water Company. The event will take place starting at 8:00 am at Duarte High School located at 1565 East Central Ave. and last until HETs run out.




DUARTE, CA., October 7, 2014— Veterans, families of those currently serving, and the general public are invited to attend a special Veterans Day ceremony sponsored by the City of Duarte at Thorsen Park, Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. Thorsen Park is located at 2800 Huntington Dr. at Encanto Parkway. Seating will be available at the ceremony and refreshments, donated by the Duarte Kiwanis Club will be served immediately after the ceremony. California Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1-18 Calvary will assist with the Posting of the Colors.


Red Ribbon Week 2014: Love Yourself, Be Drug Free!


The City of Duarte hereby proclaims the week of October 23-31, 2014, as Red Ribbon Week in the City of Duarte, and encourages all Duarte residents to participate in drug awareness activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to healthy lives. This year’s theme "Love Yourself, Be Drug Free!” will be emphasized at the Duarte Schools as students participate in Essay contests, Classroom Poster Contests, and more.

Duarte's Route 66 Parade and Picnic Draws Over 3,000 Mary Barrow Serves as Community Grand Marshal


DUARTE, CA, September 29, 2014 – Duarte residents by the thousands came out Saturday, September 27th while "Celebrating the Great Outdoors" the theme of this year’s 19th Route 66 Parade followed by the annual Duarte City Picnic and Classic Car Show at Royal Oaks Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Mountain Avenue at Duarte Road - Now Open


Duarte, CA - The intersection of Duarte Road and Mountain Ave. fully re-opened in its reconfigured alignment with both streets now open to thru traffic on Sunday, September 28th at approximately 5:30 pm months ahead of schedule thanks to cooperation of both Monrovia and Duarte; each allowing overtime work.  Over the next month, median improvements will continue to be made along Duarte Rd. Once completed, the intersection will need to be fully closed to repave and restripe over the weekends of Oct 10-12 and Oct 24-26.
