SCE CONDUCTS MAINTENANCE POWER OUTAGES ON MARCH 4 AND 8 AFFECTING 105 CUSTOMERS


DUARTE, CA, February 27, 2015 – On the days of  March 4th and 8th, a total of 100 residential  and five business customers will be involved in a series of two planned outages conducted by Southern California Edison.  On Wednesday, March 4th, the outage will last approximately seven hours between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, March 8th for approximately 10 hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Mosquito populations exploding early due to hot, dry winter

San Gabriel Valley, CA - February 24, 2015 - Vector control specialists at the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District are responding to an abnormally high volume of mosquito calls. Disease surveillance teams are concerned about finding larger than normal mosquito populations so early in the year.

Andres P. Chavez, Grandson of Cesar Chavez to Speak Mar. 28 at Westminster Gardens


DUARTE, CA. February 24, 2015 – Andres P. Chavez, grandson of Cesar Chavez and Curriculum Specialist at the Cesar Chavez Foundation will address volunteers at the upcoming Cesar Chavez Service Project on March 28, 2015 at Westminster Gardens. Andres Chavez writes curriculum for Si Se Puede Learning Centers, after-school academic tutoring and character education programs for children located in most of the foundation’s 42 affordable housing communities in four states.

DUARTE, CA, February 19, 2015 – San Gabriel Valley workforce leaders and Duarte Mayor Tzeitel Paras Caracci have partnered to host a Women’s Business Expo “Turn Your Passion into Power” scheduled for April 25, 2015 from 9am-2pm.  The expo, held at the Duarte Community Center located at 1600 Huntington Dr. is free to all attendees.  Co-hosting with the City of Duarte are the Foothill Workforce Investment Board, the Small Business Development Center, the Small Business Administration and the Duarte Chamber of Commerce.

DUARTE, CA, February 18, 2015 – Over the course of three days, a total of 256 residential customers and nine businesses will be involved in a series of two planned maintenance power outages conducted by Southern California Edison.   On Monday, February 23rd the outage will last approximately eight hours per day between 8:00 am and 4:00 p.m. and again on Friday, February 27th, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for 10 hours.

DUARTE BOXING CLUB YOUTH MEMBER BROUGHT HOME A NATIONAL SILVER GLOVES CHAMPIONSHIP SILVER MEDAL

 

DUARTE, CA, February 12, 2015 – Antonio Zavala, an up and coming Duarte Boxing Club youth boxer, captured the silver medal in the 2015 National Silver Gloves Championship held in Independence, Missouri from February 5-7th.  Antonio won the first round bout and advanced to the semi-finals.  Antonio then defeated boxer Darwin Reina, of Springfield, Massachusetts, in the semi-finals and fought Ragahleak Bartte, of Washington, D.C.  in the final round.

DUARTE RELAY FOR LIFE SET FOR MAY 16-17 AT DUARTE HIGH SCHOOL


DUARTE, CA, February 11, 2015 – Cancer never sleeps and neither will participants of the 24-hour long 6th Annual Duarte Relay for Life event to be hosted by the City of Duarte and the American Cancer Society on May 16th and May 17th on the Duarte High School Athletic Field, 1565 E. Central Ave., Duarte.  Participants of the Relay will honor cancer survivors and pay tribute to lives lost by the disease while striving to raise $29,000 to help fight cancer in the community.

Fish Canyon Falls Trail Re-Opens


DUARTE, CA, February 10, 2015Duarte Fish Canyon Falls Trails will officially re-open to the public for use on Wednesday, February 11th following a thorough trail assessment for both accessibility and safety conducted by representatives from the Angeles National Forest Service, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the City of Duarte and the Vulcan Materials Company.  The trail closed on December 17, 2014 following a rockslide which required a group of hikers to be rescued.
