The City Manager, Darrell George, is appointed by the City Council. He is responsible for implementing the policies and directives of both the City Council and the Redevelopment Agency, and for overseeing the activities of the City’ various departments and programs. Tasks include identifying community problems and appropriate solutions, making policy recommendations to the City Council, facilitating public participation in the governmental process, and representing the City in legislative actions, environmental issues, emergency management, and interactions with other governmental entities. The City Manager also serves as the Executive Director/Secretary of the Redevelopment Agency, Director of Public Safety and City Treasurer.
The City Clerk, Marla Akana, is responsible for City Council and Redevelopment Agency agenda preparation, follow-up on Council and Agency actions, preparation of minutes for City Council and Redevelopment Agency meetings, recordation of all official documents, coordination of microfilming services, publication and posting of public notices, registration of voters, and administration of municipal elections. The City Clerk also serves as the Secretary to the City Manager.
The City Attorney, Dan Slater, is appointed by the City Council and represents the City Council and staff in all matters of law pertaining to their offices. Activities include the representation of elected officials and staff in civil actions and proceedings, attendance at all meetings of the City Council and the preparation of legal documents such as contracts, deeds, ordinances, and resolutions.
