The Public Works Division is responsible for the maintenance of city streets and sidewalks and for the management of local capital improvement projects. This Division provides staffing to the Traffic & Safety Commission as well as to the City Council. Our Public Works staff is ready to assist the public with questions about right of way and traffic issues and is known for its helpful attitude.
The Public Works/Engineering Department performs the following functions:
- Develops plans and specifications for public works projects and oversees the City’s capital improvement programs.
- Issues permits and performs plan checks and inspections for work authorized within the public right-of-way.
- Checks plans for compliance with codes and inspects grading, paving and utility installations for new commercial and residential development.
- Coordinates National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements with Los Angeles County, Regional Water Quality Control Board, residents, developers and city staff.
