Duarte to Link to Azusa Pacific University City Links Project

Teams of Azusa Pacific University students will partner with the City of Duarte and Duarte nonprofits in volunteering a day of their time in community service projects as part of APU’s City Links Project.

City Links provides an opportunity for APU first-year students and surrounding community members to serve alongside one another to make an impact in their community. Partnering with churches, non-profit organizations, and city projects, students will serve over the course of three Saturdays in projects that introduce them to their local community.
It was Azusa Mayor Joe Rocha who brought the program to the attention of Duarte Mayor Margaret Finlay.
“It’s a wonderful program, a great way to introduce students to the larger surrounding community. Duarte is very excited about the opportunities of engaging with these students in positive community efforts,” said Deputy City Manager, Karen Herrera.
The students will team in a variety of Duarte community events and 9projects that will include the Duarte Route 66 Parade and Duarte’s 53rd Anniversary City Picnic on Sept. 18. Students will partner with the Duarte Senior Center to assist a senior citizen in need of home-cleaning and minor exterior painting on Sept. 18. On Oct. 2, students will link with the Friends of the Duarte Library to provide service at the 8th annual Duarte Festival of Authors at Westminster Gardens and assist a local senior with a back yard clean-up project.
