Teen Movie Night at Duarte Park Oct. 22

The Duarte Mayor’s Youth Council will launch the first in a series of Teen Movie Night events from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Duarte Park on Friday, Oct. 22. Duarte Park is located at 1344 Bloomdale St., adjacent to the Duarte Teen Center.

Created for teens by teens, the event will feature a showing of the hit movie, “The Blind Side,” and free hot dogs, hot ribs, and hot links provided by local non-profit Marvell West. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.

The event is sponsored by Duarte Parks and Recreation and Public Safety Departments, and the Man-E Moreno Foundation.
Leading off activities will be a “Battle of the Breakers” dance-off at 3:30 p.m. Contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their hottest dance moves and win prizes.

Local youth clubs will be sell club apparel and snacks. After dinner, teens can relax with friends while watching the movie and snacking on complimentary popcorn and nachos provided by the Santa Anita Family YMCA. The event is open to teens in middle school and high school with School I.D.

The Duarte Mayor’s Youth Council is comprised of a group of teens grades 8 through 12, who are appointed to a one-year term by the Duarte City Council.  The group meets on the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Duarte Teen Center. The Youth Council voices the opinions of local teens regarding issues that impact the youth of Duarte. Members learn from and contribute to the community by assisting in volunteer projects, networking and communicating with city officials and community organizations. Members also participate in leadership and training programs, and contribute ideas through practical actions and programs in the community.
