Community Group Sets Peace March from Monrovia to Duarte, Feb. 21

A local community non-profit group, Kickin it for Kids (KIK) Foundation/Enough is Enough 4 Change, will lead a peace march “with an emphasis on healing and reconciliation,” on Saturday, Feb. 21, to mark the first anniversary of the wave of violence that struck the Monrovia and Duarte communities. The City of Duarte is a co-sponsor of the event.

Marchers will meet at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 726 S. Shamrock Ave. in Monrovia, where an opening ceremony will feature speeches by local officials and community representatives. Following the ceremony, participants, accompanied by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s escort, will walk to New Hope Church, 742 Euclid Ave. There will be a rally for peace where Monrovia and Duarte officials, including Mayor John Fasana and council members and representatives from the school districts and others will speak.

According to KIK/Enough is Enough 4 Change Foundation leaders, Earle Parker and Terrence Blanchard, the non-profit organization is committed to advocating peace and working to bring change and hope to the community. The Foundation utilizes a network of community outreach programs to help assist youth to withstand peer pressure and other negative elements that plague youth by imparting the principles of discipline, self-control, respect, and self-esteem.
