Hayden Memorial 5K Run, Walk and Roll March 21 on Duarte Recreational Trail

Hundreds are expected and the entire community is invited to participate in the first annual Hayden Memorial 5K Run, Family Walk & Roll on the Duarte Recreational Trail, Saturday, March 21. The nonprofit Hayden Child Care Center at Santa Teresita Medical Center is presenting the event, co-sponsored by the City of Duarte, Alfredo’s Mexican Food, King’s Ranch Market, Jake’s Roadhouse, Visalia Rawhide Minor League Baseball Team, and DLEON Entertainment.

Popular with runners and power walkers, the trail is flanked by the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains to the north and Royal Oaks Dr. to the south. The 1.6 mile trail runs through a residential area with horses, trees and lots of shade. The race surface is asphalt, concrete and dirt. To complete the 5K, participants will loop the trail.

Runners in the 5K race will lead off at 9 a.m. from the trail head at Royal Oaks Dr. and Buena Vista St., followed by participants in the family fun run, walk and roll. A special children’s fun run will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds of Santa Teresita Medical Center, 819 Buena Vista St., where a family fun day is planned from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., featuring games, food and entertainment.

First, second and third place winners in each category of the 5K race will receive a medal. Winners of the children’s fun run will receive ribbons.

Early registration fees, prior to March 11, are: $25 for adults, 15 years of age and older; Children ages 3 to 14, $12; Wheelchair teams, up to three persons, $35; Individual wheelchair, $25; and to sponsor a Hayden teacher/Carmelite Sister, $25. After March 11, registration for adults will be $35. Registration on race day begins at 7 a.m. All participants will receive a T-Shirt.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hayden Child Care Center.

The Hayden Child Care Center assists families in the spiritual, social, and academic formation of children, providing pre-school and kindergarten education.
