Encanto Nature Walk Now Open! Open April 18, 2009

The Encanto Park Nature Walk project is collaboration between the Office of First District Supervisor Gloria Molina, the Cities of Duarte and Azusa, California American Water, the United States Corp of Engineers and the Los Angeles Conservation Corp. Opening April 18, 2009, the project creates a 1,600-foot nature trail along a natural section of the San Gabriel River in the City of Azusa, across from 11-acre Encanto Park located in the City of Duarte.
The walk includes a river overlook that projects nearly 200 feet out into the river channel with stone benches, and attractive drought tolerant native landscaping. The area has been transformed from a previously fenced off and inaccessible space into a pleasant walk culminating at the historic Puente Largo Bridge. Future enhancements to the project will include interpretive signage, additional fencing, and benches. Duarte’s street maintenance staff will provide long-term maintenance for the project.
Project cost to date have been approximately $150,000 with funds made possible through a Proposition A Grant provided by First District Supervisor Gloria Molina allocated directly to the Los Angeles Conservation Corp who completed the work. Blue Green Open Space Planning & Design of Los Angeles provided actual project design and oversight.
