“Duarte Neighborhood Service and Clean-up Day” and Community-wide Block Party Set for April 25

Event Flier
In the spirit of “Yes We Can” help make our communities better block by block, Duarte Mayor John Fasana has invited residents to roll up their sleeves on Saturday, April 25 for the first annual “Duarte Neighborhood Service and Clean-up Day and Community-wide Block Party”.
“It’s an opportunity for us to exercise our community pride, bring neighbors together in fun and purpose and help Duarte ‘Our Kind of Town’ shine brighter,” said Mayor Fasana who proposed the idea in conjunction with the City’s semi-annual community clean-up program, National Youth Service Week and President Obama’s vision of service. The Duarte/Monrovia chapter of Rebuilding Together will also take part in the day-long event with organization volunteers pitching in to assist a local resident in some backyard clean-up.
Residents are encouraged to use the day to spruce up their own personal property or join forces with other neighbors to complete a neighborhood clean-up project. Then celebrate the neighborhood’s effort with a neighborhood barbeque, ice cream social, or pot luck party.
To facilitate the day’s activities, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Duarte’s licensed trash hauler, Burrtec Waste will provide two convenient drop-off locations in the city where residents can conveniently dispose of large refuse items and e-waste. The locations are Duarte City Hall at 1600 Huntington Dr. and Beardslee Elementary School at 1212 E. Kellwill Way in Duarte. Burrtec and City staff will also be distributing used oil and sharps waste containers in addition to eco-friendly, reusable shopping bags filled with green living tips at both sites. Additionally, at the Beardslee location only, two, hour-long composting and water conservation workshops will be held in the Beardslee School Cafeteria starting at 10 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. Workshops are provided courtesy of California American Water and the Los Angeles Regional Agency (LARA). Free childcare and children’s activities will also be provided for children of workshop participants in an adjoining classroom.
