California America Water to Hold Public Meeting in Duarte on Water Rates, Conservation, May 21
Representatives from California American Water Co. will be in Duarte on Thursday, May 21 to discuss and answer questions about water rates, water conservation, and planned infrastructure improvements. The public meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Duarte Community Center, 1600 Huntington Dr.
Duarte residents are urged to attend the meeting in their local area to ask questions and share their thoughts with company representatives, who will be on hand to discuss rates, investment in water infrastructure and water conservation.
“We realize that rate increases are a sensitive issue, particularly in this economy,” said Todd Brown, California American Water general manager for Southern California. “That is why we feel it is important to reach out to the community and explain exactly why a rate increase is needed, and how the additional investments in infrastructure will benefit our customers. Once customers learn about the investments we are making to their water system and the strict regulatory process we adhere to, it will provide a better understanding of the value of the service we provide.”
Information on conservation rebates for toilets and washing machines, free conservation kits with water saving devices including low flow showerheads and garden hose nozzles will also be available at the meeting. Duarte residents could see their water rates increase by 56% in 2010 under a proposed rate increase request currently under review by the California Public Utilities Commission. Another 4% increase is proposed to go into effect in 2011 for Duarte residents.
