Duarte Public Access to Launch “DCTV on the Web”
Aug. 15

Duarte residents and others will soon to be able to watch Duarte City Council meetings and local information and entertainment programs produced by DCTV, the community’s Public Access cable station, on the World Wide Web. “DCTV on the Web” will officially launch Saturday, Aug. 15 at www.dctvduarte.com.

“It’s an exciting new chapter in DCTV’s 22-year history. More residents than ever before will have an opportunity to access programming that connects them to the people, places, events and issues that shape the Duarte community. What’s more, they’ll be able to watch DCTV programs on their own schedule,” said Alan Heller, president of the Duarte Public Access Board of Directors.

Up until now, the only way that people could watch DCTV programming was if they were a subscriber to Charter Cable, Duarte on Channel 55. A second phase roll-out of DCTV on the Web shortly will offer live streaming video of programming as it is airing on the station.

In addition to City Council meetings, DCTV offers a wide variety of programs including interview shows on the City’s history and community issues, as well as musical shows, religious programs, and coverage of local events such as Duarte’s Concerts in the Park series, Hike to Fish Canyon Falls, and the annual Duarte’s Salute to Route 66 Parade. As well as current productions, visitors to the website will also be able to watch past productions posted under Archive Videos, find out how to go about producing their own shows on DCTV and about volunteer opportunities with the Public Access station. The website will also offer links to City, School District and community organization websites.

The new website is just one of a number of new improvements for DCTV. Last year, the Duarte City Council provided DCTV with $64,000 in funding to replace faulty and obsolete video equipment with new digital machines, including a new broadcast system, editing equipment, video switcher, and video streaming capability. DCTV also has a new, colorful logo design, created pro bono for the station by Duarte-based graphic artist, Mark Wood.
