Duarte Mayor Issues “Biggest Loser” Weight Loss Challenge
It’s worked for her and her family, so Duarte Mayor Margaret Finlay decided why not issue a challenge to others in the community to set a healthy new year agenda to lose weight, get in shape and win the title of Duarte’s “biggest loser”.
The eight-week contest will begin Feb. 1, with the final weigh-in on March 29. The individual who loses the highest percentage of body weight, not necessarily number of pounds, will be crowned the winner.
“Duarte’s motto is “The City of Health”. As mayor, I’d like to help translate that motto into action and motivate our community to begin living a healthier lifestyle,” said Finlay.
The contest is open to all Duarte residents and students of all ages. There is no entry fee to participate. The winner will receive his or her choice of either a one-year total facility individual membership to the Duarte Fitness Center, or $100 in cash, provided by Mayor Finlay.
Private and confidential weigh-ins will take place every Monday at the Duarte Fitness Center. Only percentages of weight lost or gained will be shared.
The Duarte Fitness Center, located adjacent to City Hall at 1600 Huntington Dr., is offering a membership Fitness Sale from Feb. 14-17.
