Helpful Tips
Although unplanned outages are unpredictable, it helps to be prepared. To reduce the impact of possible future outages on your people and facilities, we recommend you follow these tips:
· Turn off equipment and appliances, including computers and laptops. This helps prevent potential equipment damage when power is restored.
· Outages affect alarm systems and possibly private phone systems. After any outage, notify your security and/or phone companies to let them know you have experienced an outage.
· Make sure you can override, or manually operate, your garage or security gates.
· Know where your main breaker (circuit breaker or fuse box) is located. Lean how to reset the circuit breaker or safely change a fuse, and keep the correct spares handy.
· If you plan to operate an emergency generator, please call SCE at (800) 990-7788. Knowing you have a generator at your facility will help us protect our employees from possible electrical back feed.
· If you do not have a generator and need one, consider renting a portable generator to help you get through an outage (please note: the cost of renting a generator is the responsibility of the customer).
· If you have access to the Internet or can contact someone who does, go to www.sce.com/outage for outage updates.
· When power is restored, turn on vital equipment only. To avoid overloading the electrical system, wait 10 to 15 minutes after power is restored before reconnecting the remaining equipment. Check your facility to make sure everything is operating correctly.
