Foothill Unity Center’s Back to School Program Gets Assist from City of Duarte

Foothill Unity Center’s “Back to School” program to equip needy area students with uniforms and supplies for the new school year, is getting some much needed help from their friends in Duarte.

Duarte’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth, and the City of Duarte, are providing transportation and a volunteer hand to the project slated for Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Santa Anita Racetrack located at 285 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia.

Duarte Transit will provide free transportation for Duarte program participants to and from Santa Anita Racetrack every 30 minutes beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Duarte Transit bus stop inside the Target Center parking lot. Buses will leave the racetrack on the hour and pick-up/return to the Target Center bus stop on the half-hour.

School supplies and uniforms will be handed out to hundreds of needy students from the communities of Arcadia, Duarte, Pasadena, Altadena and Monrovia by countless volunteers including Duarte’s Promise; The Alliance for Youth. Families must meet the income qualifications of Foothill Unity Center to receive assistance. Pre-registration at Foothill Unity Center is required and can be arranged by calling them at (626) 358-3486.

The public is invited to donate school supply items such as pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, rulers and calculators and backpacks. Monetary donations are also encouraged. For a $50 donation, Foothill Unity Center can equip a child with a complete school uniform and a backpack filled with school supplies.
