Edison Tower Project Update

DUARTE, CA, April 20, 2012 – During the period of April 23 – April 29, 2012, as part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE’s) Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) in the City of Duarte there will be some vegetation management activities primarily in the area of Brookridge Road.
Primarily on April 10 & 11th, trenching and installation of grounding material around the steel electrical transmission pole will occur in Hacienda Park. Additionally, post-construction restoration of vegetation and fencing at the Park will also be underway. Project personnel will also be periodically in the project area adjacent to Brookridge Road to water areas at and near new structure sites as part of vegetation management.
Additionally, while there will be no major construction activities, crews and monitors may also be accessing existing utility right-of-way corridor to perform site clean-up, monitoring or assessments. While dust is a part of construction and cannot be completely eliminated, SCE implements measures to minimize impact and to ensure compliance with dust level requirements. A water truck will be used in the utility right-of-way to minimize such dust. In addition to SCE efforts to minimize the impacts to residents and businesses during construction, please close all windows and doors facing the construction area in order to reduce noise and dust. Continue to watch for information updates in the form of mailers, door hangers, etc. to ensure you have the most up-to-date information about construction activities taking place in your area.
During weeks involving TRTP construction, to protect species and habitat areas discovered, biologists conduct biological resource surveys prior to construction. Additionally, they continually monitor biological resources in the vicinity of the TRTP work area during construction. These surveys and monitoring are conducted as part of mitigation measure requirements outlined in the project’s Environmental Impact Report (EIR) approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). SCE also works closely with the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) and its biologists on biological protection measures, including the protection of nesting birds. At the close of construction of TRTP Segment 7, SCE will work with the City of Duarte on a restoration plan to address replacement of vegetation and trees in accordance with project license requirements.
Southern California Edison began work removing electrical conductors on the westerly towers and erecting new towers within the Edison property/easement between Tocino Drive and Greenbank Avenue and within Hacienda Park and the Rancho Duarte Golf Course in late February of 2010 in conjunction with Edison’s Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) to construct new and upgraded transmission lines and substations between eastern Kern County and San Bernardino County. Construction hours are 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Edison’s Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project, once completed in 2015, will deliver electricity from wind energy generators in Kern County south through Los Angeles County and east to San Bernardino County to help meet California’s renewable energy goals. Tips for Minimizing Construction Impacts
SCE is committed to minimizing any inconvenience and ensuring public safety during this work. In addition to SCE efforts to minimize the impacts to residents and businesses during construction, here are some simple tips that may help you reduce construction disturbance:
Close all windows and doors facing the construction area in order to reduce noise and dust.
Watch for information updates in the form of mailers, door hangers, etc. to ensure you have the most up-to-date information about construction activities taking place in your area
