Red Ribbon Week 2011: Be All That

You Can Be Drug Free

The City of Duarte hereby proclaims the week of October 22-30, 2011, as Red Ribbon Week in the City of Duarte, and encourages all Duarte residents to participate in drug awareness activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to healthy lives. This year's theme "Be all you can be Drug Free"  will be emphasized at the Duarte Schools the last week of October. Students will participate in Essay contests, Classroom Poster Contests, and Art contests.

Duarte youth are also invited to help us remind the community by tying red ribbons on trees along Huntington Drive on Saturday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m. This event will kick off a week of activities in the City and Duarte schools aimed at encouraging a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The march will also lead off a day of activities at Duarte Park (adjacent to the Teen Center) for kids in grades 1st through 8th. Los Angeles County Probation will lead a drug and gang awareness training workshop from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. There will also be a free barbeque lunch provided by the Community Mediation Team, a rock climbing wall, obstacle course, music and more. Duarte Public Safety has partnered with THINK Together, a Duarte Unified School District After-School program sponsoring the event, utilizing funds from the collaborative grant from California Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention (Cal-Grip) initiative to help reduce gang violence, improve public safety, and assist anti-gang efforts.

We would like to invite all families in the Duarte area to come out and have a fun free day while acknowledging what DEA agent Enrique Camarena died fighting for, putting a stop to drugs!
