Power On in Duarte!

December 5, 2011 - Restoration efforts in Duarte by Southern California Edison (SCE) are now complete and the City's power has been restored as of 4:00 pm today.  Initially after the windstorm, five distinct outages were identified affecting approximately 1600 residents. Affected areas were advised to prepare for the possibility of being without service through Monday.

In response, the City opened the Senior and Fitness Centers from December 2 -4th from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm to accommodate displaced residents needs ie: hot showers, restrooms, a warm place to relax, cook, watch television, play board games and interact with fellow affected neighbors.  Edison has also donated 90 flashlights and 200 bottles of water available at the Senior Center for those still without power.  Edison also donated 90 flashlights and hundreds of bottles of water to those residents still without power.

As the result of a severe wind storm affecting Duarte, 250 trees were knocked down creating a maze of strewn debris across wide areas, limiting and, in some cases, preventing electrical restoration and tree removal. Please report downed City trees to either 357-7931 during City Hall business hours or 626 448-9861 after hours.

Supervisor Mike Antonovich's office is also lending a hand with the clean up by conducting on December 10th a free debris drop-off area for East San Gabriel Valley at the far east side of the City of Hope near the corner of Duarte Road and Highland Ave. The hauler for these services is the City's local refuse contractor, Burrtec Waste Industries.  His office also coordinated an event on December 3rd.

For additional information on the City of Duarte's response efforts, please contact 626 357-7931, xt. 221.
