DUARTE, CA, January 28, 2016 – Duarte, “The City of Health” encourages our community to keep “health” as their top priority for 2016 by attending a free health fair on Saturday, March 12th from 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Gardens’, Packard Hall located at 1420 Santo Domingo Ave.  During the event, a variety of free services will be available including full panel blood testing (Note: an individual must fast eight hours before test); bone density, dental, vision, blood pressure and body mass index screenings; ask a dietician and ask a pharmacist booths and a colorectal cancer screening take home kit.

DUARTE, CA, January 25, 2016 – Accessibility and safety for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout our City is on the road to enhancements!  The Community Development Department in conjunction with renowned consulting firm Fehr & Peers, has created a Citywide Bicycle Master Plan and Safe Routes to Transit Master Plan designed to encourage “pedal power.”

NEW WAYFINDING SIGNAGE WILL SHOWCASE DUARTE POINTS OF INTEREST


DUARTE, CA, January 25, 2016 – Have you ever been lost on your way to the City’s picturesque Fish Canyon Falls Trail or the beloved Royal Oaks Bike path?  Well, no more! The City of Duarte recently received a grant from the California Transportation Commission, as part of the 2014 Active Transportation Program/Safe Routes to School Call for Projects that will fund wayfinding signs throughout the city.   Approximately 34 signs and poles are proposed.

RECUERDOS DE MONROVIA: HISTORY OF MEXICAN AMERICANS SET FOR FEBRUARY 12 AT THE DUARTE HISTORICAL MUSEUM


“Until the 1950s, the Monrovia’s Mexican American community was like one extended family tied to each other by kinship, church, school, work and community.” Through studies, research and conducting oral histories, Susie Ling, Associate Professor of History and Ethnic Studies at Pasadena City College and a member of the Monrovia Latino Heritage Society, has published a booklet entitledRecuerdos de Monrovia: History of Mexican Americans. She will present a power point program on the subject on February 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Duarte Historical Museum, 777 Encanto Parkway, Duarte.

DUARTE SENIOR AGE SURVEY NOW AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW ONLINE


DUARTE, CA, November 16, 2015 – In 2014 the Duarte Parks and Recreation Department surveyed a proportionate representation of Duarte’s senior citizens ages 55 years and older. The goal for this survey process was to produce a viable assessment of the needs of Duarte’s senior citizens to assist the department in determining policies for senior services in the community and to also create a guide to develop improved programming at the Senior Center.
