Update...Buena Vista Street Closure Begins July 13th

 

Duarte, CA - Lane and Road Closures at Duarte Road and Buena Vista Street Start this week for construction of the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Light Rail Project.  Expect lane closures at the intersection of Duarte Road and Buena Vista Street for removal of the median on Duarte Road this Thursday, June 13, from 7 AM until 7 PM. Traffic control officers will be directing traffic at intersection.

That's a Relief! Restrooms Now Open Weekdays

at Duarte's Royal Oaks Park

 

DUARTE, CA, June 6, 2013 -- Good news for all who enjoy the many recreational delights of the City's Royal Oaks Park. Public restrooms, previously only open certain hours on the weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will now also be open weekdays beginning Monday, June 10.

Duarte Relay for Life Set for June 29-30 at Northview Middle School


 

DUARTE, CA - Cancer never sleeps and neither will participants of the 24-hour long Relay for Life event to be hosted by the City of Duarte and the American Cancer Society on June 29 and June 30 on the campus of Northview Middle School, 1401 Highland Ave.  Participants of the 4th Annual Duarte Relay for Life will honor cancer survivors and pay tribute to lives lost by the disease while striving to raise $50,000 to help fight cancer in the community.

Duarte Transit & Commuter Bus Detour During Gold Line Construction

 

DUARTE, CA - The Duarte Transit BLUE ROUTE will be detouring around Gold-Line construction on Buena Vista Street at Duarte Road starting June 3 and ending sometime in late August.   The Blue Route will not be able to service four locations during this time.  The first location is Buena Vista Street at Central Avenue.   Patrons may go to the bus stop located in front of the Duarte Public Library at 1301 Buena Vista Street as an alternative.

Jerry Delker Named Duarte Senior Volunteer of the Year


DUARTE, CA, May 20, 2013 -- Longtime Duarte resident anddedicated community leader, Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Delker, has beennamed City of Duarte Senior Volunteer of the Year for his years of volunteer service. He was honored by the Duarte City Council for his years of volunteer service to the community. He will also be honored at the 48th Annual Older Americans Recognition Day Awards at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on May 22, and at the Duarte Senior Center Volunteer Recognition Dinner on June 14.

Seven High School Students Win 9 Gold Medals

in Local NAACP ACT-SO Competition

 

 

DUARTE, CA, May 8, 2013 – Seven high school students, including three from Duarte High School, will advance to the NAACP’s national (ACT-SO) Afro-Academic Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics of the mind after winning nine gold medals in the local ACT-SO competition presented by the Pasadena Branch of the NAACP. The National ACT-SO competition will be held July 12-14 in Orlando, Florida in advance of the 104th NAACP Annual Convention.

AQMD to Install Monitoring Systems to

Measure Particulates from Vulcan Operation

 

DUARTE, CA, April 30, 2013 -- With Vulcan Materials Company given the green light by the State Court of Appeals to begin mining operations on Van Tassel Ridge above Duarte, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has moved ahead with plans to install monitoring equipment to measure the particulate matter that will be released into the atmosphere from the Vulcan operation.
