You may notice a new addition to City sidewalks and parkways-new bus benches and trash receptacles. The City is replacing the pre-cast concrete benches and receptacles for durable and attractive cast-iron street furniture. Over 40 new bus benches and trash receptacles are being installed by the City's Field Services and Transit Divisions staff at Duarte transit bus stops and at prime Metro and Foothill Transit stops.
The new bus benches and trash receptacles were influenced by the improvements implemented around the surrounding area of the City's new Gold Line station which featured an improved vandal deterrent design and larger capacity trash receptacles.
Funding for this project was provided by Metro Proposition A funds which are monies directed towards transit related improvements. Metro, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, serves as transportation planner and coordinator, designer, builder and operator for one of the country's largest, most populous counties. Metro is responsible for the continuous improvement of an efficient and effective transportation system for Los Angeles County.
