DUARTE, CA – Duarte will express its thanks to outstanding community volunteers and kick off the holiday season at the 31st annual Mayor’s Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast and 29th annual Duarte Chamber Community Service Recognition Awards. The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the City of Hope Cooper Auditorium, 1500 E. Duarte Rd. Buy tickets now by clicking here.
Michael and Regina Winans, the husband and wife duo, believing whole-heartedly in the sanctity of oneness, will be the event’s keynote speakers. Even in times when divorce is at an all time high, the couple continues to count their blessings, as they’ve faced many of life’s challenges, twists, and turns, but have remained steadfast as a couple and also dear friends. Michael and Regina believe that once you learn your Identity, which comes from knowing our Creator, then you understand your Purpose, and begin to walk in your Destiny. They’ve received several recognitions/honors by various organizations for their participation & commitment through their ministry and gift of songs.
Outstanding community volunteers will be honored by the Chamber of Commerce in the categories of Civic Service, Service to Senior Citizens, Humanitarian, Service to Youth, Business, and Youth. Nomination applications are available online at www.duartechamber.com. Deadline for submitting nominations is Nov. 7 by noon.
The event will also launch the 13th annual Holiday of Promise” project to collect food, personal items and gift donations to be distributed by the Duarte Community Service Council and Foothill Unity Center to needy families the week before Christmas. The project is sponsored by Duarte’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth, Duarte Church and Clergy Association, and numerous area businesses. Gift donations can be dropped off from Nov. 21st to Dec. 12th at various locations including Duarte City Hall.
The breakfast is co-sponsored by Burrtec Waste Industries, Duarte IHOP, City of Duarte, Duarte Church and Clergy Association, Duarte Chamber of Commerce, City of Hope, Duarte Kiwanis Club, and the Duarte Woman’s Club.
