DUARTE, CA., October 19, 2017—Veterans, families of those currently serving, and the general public are invited to attend a special Veterans Day ceremony sponsored by the City of Duarte at Thorsen Park, Saturday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. Thorsen Park is located at 2800 Huntington Dr. at Encanto Parkway. Local veterans from the San Gabriel Valley will provide inspirational comments and members of the American Legion Post 44 will assist with the Posting of the Colors.
To ensure that Duarte veterans are personally remembered and thanked for their service at the ceremony, veterans and their families are invited to provide City Hall with those names so that they can be acknowledged at the ceremony. Contact Lupe Valerio at (626) 357-7931, ext. 260. The City will also recognize the community’s Blue Star families.
Honoring military service to the nation is at the heart of the City’s ongoing Military Banner Recognition Program launched in conjunction with the Veterans Day ceremony in 2013. Duarte residents with family members currently serving in the military will have the opportunity to honor their loved one's service in the United States Armed Forces with a Military Recognition banner placed along the City's main corridor, Huntington Dr. City of Hope partnered with the City of Duarte to launch the banner program and has provided funding to underwrite the Military Recognition banners. These banners will be made available at no-cost to those who complete a program application, provide necessary verification documents and are deemed eligible.
