Santa’s Hotline Rescheduled to December 23rd from 3:00 to 5:00 pm

 

DUARTE, CA, December 18, 2014 – Have no fear, Santa can still hear from all Duarte children for Santa’s Hotline, which will be up, and running again on Tuesday, December 23rd. After some minor technical difficulties, the Jolly Old Soul is inviting all Duarte kids ages 5 to 11 to pick up the phone and call him at (626) 358-5425 from 3:00-5:00 pm. It is not too late to partake in this annual Duarte tradition of talking to Santa Claus and telling him what is on your wish list.

Fish Canyon Falls Trail Closed Temporarily due to Rock Slide

 

Duarte, CA - As a public safety precaution due to a rockslide on December 17th, both the Fish Canyon Access Trail and trail to the Falls are closed until the Angeles National Forest Service (ANF) evaluates the trail. At this time, it is undetermined when the trail will be re-opened.

SCE to Perform Maintenance Work on Dec. 20th Utilizing Helicopters

 

Duarte, CA - Helicopter work associated with the Southern Edison Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) will be performed on Saturday, December 20, from 7am-1pm. The work on the towers is to support Edison’s ongoing electric system upgrades. The schedule may change depending on weather and other factors.

VOLUNTEER’S NEEDED FOR DUARTE 2015 HOMELESS COUNT

 

DUARTE, CA, December 11, 2014 – The homeless population, although often silent and in the shadows, are part of the demographic make-up of Southern California. To accurately count this often-vulnerable group, the City of Duarte recently voted to participate in the 2015 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count sponsored by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). The actual count is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 8p.m until approximately 12am. The City also participated in the 2012 Homeless Count.

Cities of Duarte, Azusa and Glendora to Open Doors as Host Town for the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015

 

AZUSA, Calif., (Dec. 9, 2014) – The cities of Duarte, Azusa and Glendora announced today that the respective communities have been officially selected to participate in the Special Olympics World Games Host Town program from July 21 – 24, 2015. Before the Special Olympics World Games begin on July 25, 2015, more than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries will be welcomed to Southern California through the Host Town program. As many as one hundred communities from San Luis Obispo to San Diego will have the honor of being selected as an official Host Town.

Gold Line Train Testing to Commence

 

Beginning December 8 and lasting two weeks until December 19, Foothill Transit Constructors and the Foothill Goldline Authority will be conducting the initial train testing for the project. During this period, a single train will be first pulled and then operated on its’ own power within the rail corridor between the cities of Arcadia and Duarte. This initial testing activity will test train clearances along the alignment as well as the Overhead Catenary System which powers the trains.

DUARTE, CA November 26, 2014 – The Duarte City Council joined forces with Duarte Unified School District by signing an Anti-Bullying Pledge entitled “CHANGE” designed to establish a positive culture of acceptance, tolerance and respect throughout the City of Duarte. ‘This official pledge created by the Chicago School of Professional Psychology was undertaken at the recent joint City/School Board/Town Council Board Meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2014.

Outstanding Community Volunteers Recognized at Duarte’s Mayor Prayer Breakfast

 

DUARTE, CA, November 26, 2014 — The City of Duarte and over 130 attendees expressed thanks to outstanding community volunteers and kicked off the holiday season at the 29th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and 27th annual Duarte Chamber Community Service Recognition Awards. Ed Barron, Executive Director of Multi Ethnic Programs at Azusa Pacific University (APU), served as this year’s featured speaker and imparted a powerful message of being selfless and lifting up the community through service.
