DUARTE, CA., July 29 2014 — Hundreds of Duarte residents are expected to participate in the citywide "going away party" for crime at block parties, cookouts and ice cream socials in neighborhoods throughout Duarte in recognition of the City’s 31st annual National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, Aug. 5.


Remembering Irwin Margiloff: Curator of Duarte HIstorical Museum


Duarte, CA - July 29, 2014 - Longtime curator of the Duarte HIstorical Museum,  Irwin Bodee Margiloff passed away on Friday July 25, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born on November 19, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, Margiloff attended Brooklyn Technical High School and entered Cornell University’s School of Chemical Engineering in 1947, graduating with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1952.  Irwin entered the US Army from ROTC as a Second Lieutenant and was quickly promoted to First Lieutenant before being deployed to Germany. Margiloff was a longtime Vice President at Halcon Scientific Design in New York City where he designed and built chemical plants around the Globe.


Neighborhood Pesticide Treatment Scheduled in San Gabriel Valley to Control Invasive Mosquito



West Covina, CA - July 25, 2014- In an ongoing effort to control the infestation of Asian tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) in the San Gabriel Valley, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District (SGVMVCD) will conduct a truck-mounted mosquito control treatment in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 30. The Asian tiger mosquito is a primary vector of chikungunya - a painful disease spreading rapidly throughout the Caribbean and as of July 15, over 350 travel-associated cases and one locally transmitted have been reported in the U.S. The application will target immature mosquitoes.

Duarte, CA, July 28, 2014 - Duarte Councilmember John Fasana was awarded the annual “Consensus Builder” Award by the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) on Thursday, July 17th at the SGVCOG’s annual award’s reception. “John Fasana is someone we all know and trust here in the San Gabriel Valley, cited City of Industry Mayor, Tim Spohn, SGVCOG 3rd Vice President who made the nomination.

Duarte, CA, July 23, 2014 - Donnie Mauldin, a 33-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, was recently promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff John Scott, and has assumed command of the Temple Sheriff’s station.

DUARTE, CA, July 22, 2014 – As Southern California Edison wraps up its close to four year segment of the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) in Duarte, residents will experience some intermittent park, street and freeway closures with helicopter activity.

Health & Wellness Family Expo For All Community Members Coming to Duarte



DUARTE, CA, July 16, 2014 – LULAC, the City of Duarte and Mayor Liz Reilly have partnered to host the 2014 Health and Wellness Family Expo scheduled for September 20, 2014 from 9am-3pm. The expo is free and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend. The Expo will be held at Northview Intermediate School located at 1401 Highland Avenue.


One-Day traffic closures of Central Avenue and Business Center Drive at Highland Avenue and Duarte Road at Hope Drive


Duarte, CA July 16, 2014 - Foothill Transit Constructors (FTC), the company building the Gold Line light rail project, will be performing two - one-day (Saturday) closures of specific intersections near the Gold Line Station. This work is being done to install underground conduit in preparation for the installation of three signalized intersections.


Interactive “Get Back To Work Boot Camp” Slated for September 13 at Duarte Library

DUARTE, CA, July 8, 2014 - Duarte residents are invited to attend a free, four-hour workshop designed to jump-start their career search and become job ready at the “Get Back to Work Boot Camp” scheduled for Saturday September 13th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Duarte Library. The Duarte County Library is located at 1301 Buena Vista Street and participants are encouraged to pre-register for the workshop.
