ROYAL OAKS PARK PLAYGROUND TEMPORARILY CLOSED SEPTEMBER 8 – 26th DUE TO REPAIRS

The Royal Oaks park playground, located at 2627 Royal Oaks Drive, will be temporarily closed for repair work from Tuesday, September 8 to September 26th. The facility will re-open in time for the annual City Anniversary Picnic scheduled for September 26th starting at 11:00 am.  Temporary fencing and signage will  also be staged around the area to inform the public of the improvement.

Duarte School Board Candidates' Forum Set for Mon., Oct. 12

A candidates’ forum consisting of only the school board candidates will be held Monday, October 12. This event will be sponsored by the Duarte Chamber of Commerce and conducted by the League of Women Voters. It will be held at the Duarte Community Center, 1600 Huntington Dr., Duarte, from 7-9 p.m. DCTV will be videotaping the event for playback on local cable and on their website.

Map Your Neighborhood (MAP) Training Offered in Duarte


DUARTE, CA, August 26, 2015 – CAL TECH and the City of Duarte Public Safety Department are providing free “Map Your Neighborhood” (MAP) training with an emphasis on basic safety and life saving skills for the neighborhood on September  17th.  The course will be offered on a Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30pm at the Duarte Community Center, 1600 Huntington Drive. Parking is available on site.  MAP training is offered to participants 18 years or older.

DUARTE/CITY OF HOPE GOLD LINE STATION DEDICATED

 

DUARTE, CA - Under sun-drenched skies, nearly 400 people braved the record heat and joined in a Duarte community celebration this past Saturday for the first of five Foothill Gold Line station dedication ceremonies. It was an impressive day, with a train ready at the Duarte/City of Hope Station, and dozens of local, state and federal officials on hand to mark the historic occasion.

PROPOSED VERIZON TRANSFER

 

The Verizon Corporation of California has an application before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) requesting the sale of its wireline operations and customers be transferred to the Frontiers Communications Corporation.  Operations transferred would include approximately 2 million lines that are used to provide voice, internet, long distance and video services in areas that are currently served by Verizon. Frontier currently offers both telecommunication and other services to more than 3 million residential and business customers in 28 states.

CITY OF DUARTE HONORED THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF VOTING RIGHTS ACTS OF 1965


DUARTE, CA, August 17, 2015 – The Duarte City Council honored the 50th Anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 at its recent August 11th meeting.  At the meeting, the Council unanimously adopted a Proclamation detailing the original Act and its purpose to enforce voting rights of all persons as guaranteed by the US Constitution.

Duarte Sets Community Clean-up Day for September 19


DUARTE, CA, August 12, 2015 -- Break out the brooms, rakes, shovels, and trash bags, it’s cleaning time in the City of Duarte.  The City and Burrtec Waste Industries will hold its last bi-annual Duarte Community Clean-Up Day of 2015 on Saturday, September 19.

RAY BRADBURY EXHIBIT FEATURED AT DUARTE HISTORICAL MUSEUM THROUGH AUGUST


Honorary Duartean Author Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) is the subject of an exhibit at the Duarte Historical Museum in Encanto Park.  Compiled by Jack Collins and former Duarte Librarian Peter Rosenwald, the display features articles, books, photographs, and other memorabilia and will remain through August.

DUARTE LAUNCHES THREE NEW SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS IN JULY


DUARTE, CA, July 28, 2015 – Over 2.1 billion people worldwide have social media accounts with close to 1.7 billion actively engaged. The City of Duarte is tapping into this dynamic world by launching three official City social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn in late July. The City has been active Twitter since 2010 and currently has over 1620 followers.
