Representing District No. 1, Tzeitel Russel M. Paras was first elected at-large in November 2001. She is named after the eldest daughter from the Broadway musical “Fiddler on the Roof”. Tzeitel became the first Duarte High School Graduate and Filipino-American woman elected to the Duarte City Council. Her parents and brothers moved to Duarte in 1985. Tzeitel (DHS ’89) has two younger brothers: Bertrand Russell (DHS ’92) and John Paul George (DHS ’96).
In the historic 2018 district-elections, Tzeitel Paras-Caracci was elected to serve a 4-year term representing District 1. As a public servant, Tzeitel has served as Mayor in 2006, 2011 and 2015. She continues to participate in many facets of government and civic engagement. To name a few, she has served as President of APAMO (Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials), Director of L.A. County Sanitation District, Governing Board Member of Foothill Transit, Duarte Communication Education Council and the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities and League of California Cities. Tzeitel is thankful for having the opportunity to make a difference each day on the behalf City of Duarte, the City she loves and has been her hometown for over 34 years. Tzeitel married K.C. Caracci in 2003 at Royal Oaks Park. She and K.C. welcomed their son, Jack Russell on January 4, 2014. In August 2018, she opened “SEE JACK PLAY, an indoor play space for children and families. Tzeitel is a proud alumna of Duarte High School and Woodbury University.
MORE FUN FACTS: In addition to English, Tzeitel also speaks Tagalog (konti) and Spanish (un poquito). Aside from loving Duarte, she also loves Hello Kitty, watching HGTV, Food Network, and Disney Junior. Whenever she has some spare time, she loves to bake, decorate cakes & cookies and craft.
